Facebook became the most visited site in Brazil over the weekend. The social network took 11 percent of all internet traffic, just slightly greater than Google Brasil, as the two fight for market share in the booming South American country.

Facebook: The Internet’s Most Searched & Visited Site Of 2011

New data from Hitwise shows that Facebook is the top-searched term in the U.S. for the third year in a row. It accounted for 3.1% of all searches, up 46% from last year. Four variations on “Facebook” were also among the top 10 terms, accounting for 4.42% of all searches. “Facebook login” was the third most-searched term of 2011, followed by “craigslist” and “facebook.com.” The search term “www.facebook.com” came in eighth place after “yahoo” and “ebay.”

For the second year in a row, Facebook was also the top-visited Website on the Internet. Google.com came in second two years in a row even though it accounts for 11.98% of U.S. visits, whereas Facebook properties only make for 8.93% of U.S. visits.
The year 2011 has been huge for Facebook, with everything from the FTC settlement to frictionless sharing and the release of Timeline.

Facebook Most Searched For Term, Most Visited Site in 2010

For the second straight year, Facebbok was the most searched for term on the internet. And with the interest it is gaining through the awards being given The Social Network this movie awards season, the company may hold the title again this year.
Hitwise released the search numbers and interestingly Facebbok was 4 of the top 10 searches – www and the dot com being separated.
