SEO duplicate contents question: Are site listings considered duplicated contents?
My intention is to create local listings for all bowling spots all across the world. If I copy/paste short descriptive paragraphs from their websites and add them to my site, would this be considered duplicated contents. Actually, the entire site will be just a copy/paste collection of contents. What could be the implication for my pagerank

Every day I jump onto Facebook for my work, but honestly, I never use it as it was intended. If you send me a message or like my status, I might engage, but I never reach out to folks. My stream is full of interesting content about people I don’t know enough to care about. [...]

If recent crackdowns against file-sharing were meant as a warning shot to other site owners, it has indeed been heard loud and clear. First, sites like FileSonic and FileServe voluntarily scaled back their functionality, while others vocally defended their own practices in the wake of the Megaupload shutdown. Today, popular BitTorrent index BTjunkie shut itself [...]

Many people are expecting Facebook to file for it’s initial public offering today. In what could be the biggest tech IPO in history, Facebook would be aiming for a $75-100 billion valuation. They are looking to raise $10 billion in stock. Facebook is expected to go public under the symbol “FB,” but it’s unclear whether [...]

I think you already know the answer: by doing this, you would (1) be nearly guaranteeing penalties by Google for ‘duplicate content,’ which means your pages would likely be ranked at the end of most search results, and (2) infringing the copyrights of all the sites which you copy (even if you believe it’s helpful to them).
I would think the better solution would be to create your own ‘checklist’ of features and options for each location, and then generate a table or grid for each. Then people could search (Candlepin bowling; adult leagues; open bowl on Friday night — I don’t know which factors might be important to bowlers since I haven’t bowled since our local bowling alley closed 2 years ago).

I don’t think you would have an issue, cutting and pasting things like the address and phone numbers of bowling locations is not going to be a problem. If you take the descriptions from 1,000′s of different bowling sites, this would hardly be duplicate content. If you take them from 1 or 2 other bowling directories, then you may have an issue. For the most part, you would be providing general information like a directory, so you would be ok. You would actually be making something useful. Seems like quite a big undertaking.
